Hi... hopefully someone knows how to help me. I have a limited knowledge of PSP. I have taken some images and I want to assemble a brochure using them. I've looked at some layering tutorials, however, they usually demonstrate layering by using picture tubes and I want to layer my images onto the same page without using picture tubes. It seems like it should be relatively simple... if you know how, please share that info with me... I'm very appreciative!
Hi -

You don't have to do this part, but I feel it makes it easier!

Go to 'Window', then click 'Tabbed Documents'. I know this feature in PSP X3 and X2, but not sure about X1 and previous versions.

Open your file, now open another file. You will see 2 tabs toward the top, click on say the second one.

Now click 'Selections' - choose Select All or press control and A at the same time.

Now go to 'Edit' and click 'Copy' or press Ctrl and C.

Now click on the other tab and click 'Edit' and choose 'Paste As New Layer' or Ctrl and L.

Now in the 'Layer' palette, you should see both of your files that you opened. (if you don't see your layer palette, press F8 and it will appear)

What you do from there is up to you! You could have the first tab a new empty document and the other tabs each being a picture / graphic that you want to put all together on the first tab, with each having it own layer!

Be sure to close the other tabs when your done with them!

Any questions ask. I am sure someone might have a better way!

Copy and Paste as new layer. Or you can drag a layer from the layers pallet onto a second image and it pastes as new layer.
These will always be centred in the centre of the image, you then need to move and or scale rotate etc. with the pick tool
Thank you, Tristan. Your directions were easy to follow. The only problem is that I wanted to put 8 photos on the same page not just two and I tried to do that following your instructions but the third image would replace the other two... so I'm stuck.

I appreciate your help... if you have info to share on getting all 8 images on the page, please let me know!

Be sure you begin with a new image set for the length and width dimensions of your brochure. Then all of the image components are each pasted as new layers. Any test should go on separate layer(s), too. Save to PSP's native PSPImage format so you can return to the file and work on the layers if necessary.

If you do a lot of brochures, there are much better software packages for that kind of project, including Microsoft Publisher and Xara Xtreme.

Thanks for your help, Bob. What I'm trying to do is market a necklace tutorial on etsy. I have taken different photos of the necklace which has been made with different variations from the pattern. I want to place all the photos on the same page and possibly place the name of the pattern in there as well.

When you say to begin with a new "image set" he for the length and width dimensions of your brochure... that's where I am confused. Will I lose picture quality if I resize the photos before I paste them into layers? Also, I have downloaded the instructions for layering, but I'm more of a hand-on-hands person so without seeing someone actually perform the function, I pretty much have to have someone lead me step by step... at least for the first application of layering... so I understand what I'm doing.

If you're still willing to pass on info... I'll sure be appreciative!

Thank you.

Barbara, as long as you're downsizing the photos, you won't lose quality -- at least for this purpose.

The Paint Shop Pro Users Group has a list of several tutorials on layers indexed at their website. These were done in versions earlier than PSPX3, but the concepts still apply. I think it would be wise to look at some of these and/or do a Google search for "PSP layers tutorials" for similar information. This would certainly help you in understanding how layers are used.

Turning on Grids and Guides would likely help with your layout, by the way.

Thank you, Bob. I'll check out your link. I do have corel psp x2... I updated from Jacs psp 9. I just haven't used it for layering in the past. I do appreciate you taking time to send me info.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this DTP package that may do what you are wanting:
Serif Page Plus

I have not used it myself, but I am going to look into it for someone else that needs DTP but does not have the budget for some of the other software titles. The SE is free and can be used as an upgrade path.

If you beat me to it, let us know your input on it is. I still have to see if I have another copy of Publisher around here some where.

Rob
There Open Source as well. Here a few links...

Scribus is Open Source Desktop Publishing!

Open Office is a possibility, it for office (word, spreadsheet, database, etc), but you can get away with desktop I gather. As I haven't tried it for that!

Here a review for the above two and Serif Page Plus that Rob mentioned. Serif I believe has pop ups or reminders for upgrading and has limits.
